The 2010 Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race is a non-stop 1760-mile race. The race will start on Monday 23rd August from the Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes and then racing clockwise race round Britain and Ireland. The 2010 race is the 6th edition of the race and is set to be a truly international event with confirmed competitors from 8 nations. All competitors will face once of the most challenging adventures competing in this non-stop race through some of the world' busiest waters over many days.
The first ever RORC Round Britain and Ireland started on 5th June 1976. In total there were 25 competitors split into 2 divisions; Division 1 was a non-stop race and Division II a race with stops. In 1980 the race started on 5 July and was run as a completely non-stop race attracting 13 starters. Both the 1992 and 1994 race included stops in the race. The race in 2000 and the 2006 races were non-stop attracting upwards of 16 competitors.
Completing the race is considered such an accolade that it attracts entrants from both amateur and professional sailors alike, sailing some of the world's most highly equipped ocean racing yachts: including Volvo Ocean 70s, IMOCA 60s and Class 40s.
